History
Rooted in the Sugarhill Gang's 1979 'Rapper's Delight' bringing rap to the singles chart, pop rap matured through Run-DMC, MC Hammer and Will Smith's clean crossover. The hook-rap era of Nelly and OutKast and the digital-streaming melodic wave of Drake, Post Malone and trap-pop pushed it to the genre's commercial center by the 2010s.
