Country Blues / Country Soul is where twang, gospel feeling, blues phrasing, swamp atmosphere, and Southern groove meet. The instruments range from acoustic guitar and harmonica to electric piano, horns, Muscle Shoals rhythm sections, and greasy tremolo guitars; the common thread is emotional grain and deep southern feel.
History
Country and blues were intertwined at the roots, but the family's later identity sharpened in the 1960s and 1970s through Muscle Shoals, the swamp South, and artists who refused to obey racial or genre boundaries. In the 2020s, Black-country resurgence, Americana soul hybrids, and the enduring popularity of Chris Stapleton, The War and Treaty, and Shaboozey-era crossover discourse gave the family renewed visibility.
