Country built outside the US heartland, where the music's fiddle-and-twang DNA fuses with local roots: Celtic reels, Mexican accordion, Brazilian viola, Cajun French, Scandinavian folk. Voices range from yodeling Albertans to Irish showband crooners to charro balladeers, all telling regional working-life stories over recognizably country backbone.

History

As US country spread by radio and record from the 1930s, Canada, Australia, Ireland, Brazil, Mexico and the Nordic countries each grew homegrown scenes. Some echoed Nashville; others wove in indigenous folk traditions, creating durable hybrids that outlived their imported parent and built local star systems, charts and festivals far from Tennessee.
