Y2K Pop Era

Turn-of-the-millennium pop with a futuristic, metallic sheen: bouncy synth-funk, vocoder touches, crunchy programmed drums, and an aesthetic of chrome, low-rise jeans and shiny optimism. Bright, danceable singles fusing teen-pop polish with early electronic and R&B flavors, built for CD singles and TRL countdowns.
History
Coined in retrospect, the Y2K sound captures the brief window when teen-pop polish met futurist styling and the dawn of digital culture circa 2000. It overlapped with the teen-pop boom but leaned glossier and more tech-coded. The look and sound faded as crunk, emo and ringtone rap reshaped the mid-2000s charts.
