History
Christian hip-hop, gospel rap and mainstream spiritual rap converged through Kirk Franklin's urban gospel, Lecrae's crossover, Chance the Rapper's gospel-soul hooks, Kanye West's Sunday Service period and artists such as Tobe Nwigwe, Mali Music, NF, Andy Mineo and Hulvey. Wider hip-hop also kept using choirs and prayer hooks for catharsis. The style grew because worship melody gives rap an immediate language for gratitude, guilt, survival and hope.
