Modern praise-and-worship sung in an R&B idiom: smooth contemporary production, layered background vocals, neo-soul chords and a singer-songwriter intimacy applied to vertical worship lyrics. Spontaneous bridges and repeated declarative hooks replace the verse-chorus pop form, building organically toward a sustained corporate moment, polished yet congregational.
History
Took shape as a younger generation fused contemporary gospel with the sung-worship movement. Travis Greene ('Intentional', 'Made a Way'), Tasha Cobbs Leonard ('Break Every Chain', 2013) and Jonathan McReynolds led a Southern, R&B-literate worship wave; the three toured together and helped make sung, spontaneous worship a dominant contemporary gospel mode into the 2020s.
