Uplifting Trance

Uplifting trance is fast, melodic, and shamelessly cathartic: soaring supersaw leads, emotional breakdown pianos, big snare builds, and chord changes designed to wring tears out of lasers. It usually lands between 136 and 140 BPM and makes understatement sound like a moral failing.

History

The sound took shape as Dutch and later global trance scenes pushed melody and emotional payoff harder around the turn of the millennium. Ferry Corsten, Armin van Buuren, Above & Beyond, Aly & Fila, Giuseppe Ottaviani, and Daniel Kandi all helped define its peak and its long afterlife in arenas, livestreams, and dedicated trance festivals.
