UK Rave is the British rave ecosystem where acid house, breakbeat hardcore, warehouse parties, pirate radio, reggae sound-system influence, and chart pop collided. Compared with Euro Rave it leans more on breakbeats, samples, MC energy, and local party networks. The sound is euphoric but messy, full of cartoon snippets, bass drops, and pressure from pirate radio.

History

UK rave grew from the acid house explosion into regional scenes around London, the Midlands, Manchester, the M25 orbital parties, free parties, and large events such as Fantazia, Raindance, Universe, and Dreamscape. The Prodigy, Altern-8, SL2, Shut Up and Dance, Kicks Like a Mule, N-Joi, Orbital, The KLF, Ratpack, Urban Hype, Smart E's, and 2 Bad Mice became core names. Police pressure and the Criminal Justice Act era helped define the culture's mythology as much as its music did.
