Britain's distinct dialect of drill, built on a 3+3+2 hi-hat polyrhythm, a snare landing on beat four and gliding portamento 808s under dark, minimal piano or string motifs. Tempos hover near 140-145 BPM. Flows are clipped, agile and laden with London slang, the tone tense and clinical, trading Chicago's drawl for sharper, more rhythmically intricate cadences.
History
Emerged in Brixton from 2012 as Chicago's sound crossed the Atlantic; collectives 67 and 150, with producers Carns Hill and M1OnTheBeat, forged a homegrown identity. It turned commercial via Headie One, Digga D, Unknown T and OFB, peaking when Headie One's 'Edna' hit UK #1 in 2020 and Central Cee took the sound global.
