UK Bass

UK Bass is the post-dubstep and post-UKG umbrella for British club music that keeps garage swing, dubstep sub-bass, techno pressure, funky percussion, and house discipline in fluid conversation. It is less a single sound than a scene label for records that did not fit old genre boxes after dubstep splintered. Tracks may be melodic, dark, broken, or straight, but they usually share low-end focus, syncopated rhythm, and the sense that UK garage's lineage is being recombined for newer club systems.
History
Around 2008-2012, labels and producers around Hessle Audio, Hotflush, Night Slugs, Hemlock, Numbers, and Swamp81 helped move UK club music beyond dubstep's wobble stereotype. Joy Orbison's "Hyph Mngo," Girl Unit's "Wut," James Blake's "CMYK," Addison Groove's "Footcrab," Blawan, Pearson Sound, and Boddika became touchpoints for a scene that critics often called UK bass. The term remains loose, but it usefully captures the experimental club language between garage revival, post-dubstep, techno, and bass music.
