It is sunnier and more decorative than bolero lounge, with more postcard color and more playful rhythmic lift.
History
The style sat at the intersection of mambo afterglow, exotica, cocktail music, and tourist-facing international pop, thriving in hotels, cruises, and bachelor-pad LP culture; Xavier Cugat, Pérez Prado, Martin Denny, Esquivel, Herb Alpert, and Walter Wanderley each contributed different shades of the soft-tropical palette that defined mid-century cosmopolitan leisure music.
