Trapstep is the collision point between EDM trap and dubstep, using trap hats, snare rolls, 808 drops, and rap-like swagger alongside dubstep growls, wobble bass, and aggressive midrange sound design. It is heavier than most festival trap and more rhythmically trap-coded than standard brostep. The style thrives on half-time drops, fake-outs, crowd chants, and distorted bass fills built for bass stages.

History

Trapstep emerged when the early-2010s US trap boom met dubstep's festival infrastructure and sound-design arms race. Skrillex, RL Grime, Flosstradamus, Yellow Claw, Zomboy, Bro Safari, Brillz, 12th Planet, Herobust, and UZ all made records or remixes that blurred the boundary between trap percussion and dubstep weight. The name faded as bass music cross-pollinated, but the formula remains central to festival trap, hybrid trap, and dubstep-adjacent drops.
