Trap Dominance Era names the period when trap became the default sound of mainstream rap and much of global pop: 808 bass, rapid hi-hats, sparse minor-key loops, triplet flows, Atlanta production language, melodic hooks and streaming-era mixtape logic. It is an era label rather than a micro-sound. The point is market gravity: even artists outside southern trap began speaking some version of trap's rhythmic vocabulary.
History
Trap's roots run through T.I., Gucci Mane, Young Jeezy, Shawty Redd and Zaytoven, but dominance arrived as Lex Luger, Mike WiLL Made-It, Metro Boomin, Southside, TM88, 808 Mafia, Future, Migos, Young Thug, Travis Scott, 21 Savage and Lil Baby turned Atlanta-derived production into the mainstream center. Streaming playlists, SoundCloud, producer tags and mixtape culture accelerated the shift. By the late 2010s, trap drums had become pop infrastructure.
