Trap built around massed gospel choirs: stacked "hallelujah" chants, hymnal harmonies and cathedral-sized vocal pads swelling over booming 808s, rolling hi-hats and sparse trap drums. Organ and sub-bass anchor the low end while the choir lifts the hook to sacred, monumental scale, marrying church grandeur to street rhythm.
History
Born from Kanye West's gospel-trap turn on The Life of Pablo (2016), where Kirk Franklin's choir crowned "Ultralight Beam." The sound deepened through West's 2019 Sunday Service and Jesus Is King, where full choirs sat atop 808s, while Travis Scott (Astroworld, 2018) and Chance the Rapper carried choral hooks into wider trap. Critics dubbed it church-choir swagged out over 808s.
