Thrashcore / Fastcore is hardcore stripped for maximum velocity: very short songs, frantic downstrokes, shouted vocals, blast-like drumming and minimal ornament. It is related to crossover thrash but usually less metallic, keeping the punk economy and anti-solo attitude while increasing tempo. Fastcore later became the cleaner name for the ultra-fast branch that avoided metal's heaviness and leaned into precision, brevity and comic or political overload.
History
D.R.I.'s early records helped define hardcore "thrash" before the word became metal's property, while Siege, Deep Wound, Lärm, Heresy and later Charles Bronson, Scholastic Deth and Vitamin X pushed speed as an aesthetic. The style fed powerviolence, grindcore and fast modern hardcore, but it stayed rooted in punk's short-song logic. Because the songs are so compressed, small differences in drum feel, riff clarity and vocal attack define entire micro-scenes.
