Bombastic metal or hard-rock arrangements back gross-out gags, monster getups, and shock-comedy set pieces. The visual absurdity onstage matters as much as the songs themselves.
History
GWAR's mid-1980s latex-monster spectacle launched costumed shock-comedy rock; the band even taught Green Jellÿ prop-building, leading to that act's 1993 Top 40 hit "Three Little Pigs." Finland's Lordi extended the costumed approach to a 2006 Eurovision win with "Hard Rock Hallelujah," cementing theatrical comedy rock as a durable spectacle form.
