Independent dancehall country from Texas: fiddle-and-steel two-steppers, singer-songwriter craft, and roots-rock backbone, charted on the Texas Music Chart rather than national radio. Honest, regional, blue-collar lyricism delivered in plainspoken twang. Self-released, tour-driven, and proudly outside the Nashville machine.
History
Growing from Texas dancehalls and the Robert Earl Keen / Pat Green college circuit of the 1990s, the scene built its own radio chart and festival network. Acts like Randy Rogers Band, Cody Johnson, and Wade Bowen sustained careers selling out Texas venues; Cody Johnson eventually crossed into Nashville mainstream success in the late 2010s.
