Texas Blues proper balances supple guitar lines with a firm groove and a cleaner, more linear attack than many heavier Southern blues variants. Vocals can be high and sharp or smooth and urbane, while the guitar often speaks in clipped single-note runs, bright fills, and long expressive bends rather than dense chordal grind.

History

Early Texas blues grew from East Texas country-blues roots, Dallas recording activity, and a regional preference for melodic, picked guitar. In the electric era, T-Bone Walker, Gatemouth Brown, Lightnin Hopkins, Freddie King, and later the Austin revival gave the style both urban polish and ferocious live-band power, making Texas blues one of the most durable and exportable blues identities.
