Teen TV Pop

Pop spun directly off teen television: cast-sung soundtracks, in-show 'bands,' and ensemble covers from Nickelodeon, Disney and network musicals. Sound is bright, character-driven dance-pop and pop-rock, often comedic or aspirational, with multi-voice arrangements tied to episode plots. Songs double as plot devices and standalone radio-and-streaming singles.
History
TV-born pop boomed as Nickelodeon launched Big Time Rush and Victorious (Victoria Justice), Disney built bands into shows, and Fox's Glee (2009) turned weekly cover medleys into chart-topping singles. The screen-to-single pipeline made television writers' rooms a genuine hit factory across the late-2000s and 2010s.
