Teen Pop

The core of the family: solo and group pop sold to teenagers with enormous, repetition-built choruses, sparkling synth-and-drum-machine production, and clean, heavily-doubled lead vocals. Romance and self-confidence drive the lyrics; bridges break into key changes or chant-along middle-eights. High-budget videos and dance breaks are standard.
History
Teen idols recur across pop history, but the modern strain crystallized with Tiffany and New Kids on the Block, then surged when Britney Spears and the Backstreet Boys hit in 1998-99, largely via Swedish producers Max Martin and Denniz Pop at Cheiron Studios. The template recurred through the 2010s with One Direction and beyond.
