Technical rap rewards internal rhyme, multisyllabics, breath control, bar construction, and precision flow. The beat can be simple; the rapper is supposed to be the fireworks display.

History

Rakim and Kool G Rap transformed rap technique into a prestige category, and later MCs like Big Pun, Eminem, Black Thought, and Pharoahe Monch kept raising the bar. Technical rap remains one of the clearest measurements of rap formal skill, even when charts prefer easier hooks.
