History
Tech House emerged in the 1990s as UK and US DJs sought a middle ground between soulful house and hard techno, with early scenes around London's Wiggle parties, Terry Francis, Mr. C, Eddie Richards, and labels such as End Recordings and Plastic City. The sound later widened through Ibiza, minimal, tribal, and electro-influenced club music, then exploded commercially in the late 2010s through Beatport, festival programming, and artists such as Green Velvet, Hot Since 82, Jamie Jones, Patrick Topping, Fisher, Chris Lake, and Michael Bibi. Its durability comes from being both a style and a DJ toolset: if a record has the groove, the swing, and the low-end utility, tech-house DJs will find a use for it.
