Synth-Punk is punk wired into cheap electronics: primitive synth lines, drum machines, shouted vocals, jagged minimalism and a deliberately hostile relationship to rock tradition. It is not polished synth-pop; the machines buzz, bark and misbehave. The style often feels nervous, comic, paranoid or confrontational, as if punk's guitar attack has been translated into blinking lights and malfunctioning circuits.
History
Suicide were the crucial pre-punk electronic shock, while Devo, The Screamers, The Units, Nervous Gender, Chrome and early minimal-synth scenes proved that punk energy did not require standard rock instrumentation. Synth-punk later fed electroclash, digital hardcore, egg-punk, coldwave revival and lo-fi DIY electronics. Its importance lies in attitude: technology used cheaply and aggressively, not as sleek futurism but as a new way to antagonize.
