History
Emerged in the early 1980s as British synth bands added guitars and rock structure to keyboard pop. Duran Duran, Tears for Fears and a-ha topped charts worldwide with lush, synth-led but band-driven hits; MTV amplified the look and sound. The hybrid shaped 1980s mainstream pop-rock and resurfaced in 2000s synth-revival acts trading on the same gloss.
