Louisiana's languid, humid take on electric blues: slow, hypnotic grooves, reverb-soaked guitar, lazy amplified harmonica and a loping back-porch shuffle that feels half-asleep in the heat. History
Cut in Jay Miller's Crowley studio and licensed to Nashville's Excello Records from 1955 on, swamp blues was built by Slim Harpo, Lightnin' Slim and Lazy Lester. Its loose, sensual grooves and harmonica hooks were avidly covered by 1960s rock acts, embedding tracks like 'I'm a King Bee' deep in the rock songbook well before swamp's own chart run faded.
