Surf country blends country twang with reverb-heavy surf guitar, tremolo, and sometimes spaghetti-Western atmospherics. Instrumentals and guitar-focused songs dominate, and the vibe is equal parts beach, desert, and roadside chrome.

History

Though never a dominant commercial label, the hybrid emerged naturally where instrumental rock, rockabilly revival, and southwestern twang overlapped. The Cramps, Junior Brown, Chris Isaak, The Sadies, and other twang-heavy artists made the style identifiable through guitar timbre and space rather than strict scene boundaries.
