Steppers Dub is the militant four-on-the-floor side of dub: driving kick drums, siren lines, deep skanks, heavy bass, spiritual roots messages, and mixes designed for sound-system stacks. It is more propulsive than ambient dub and more roots-focused than dub techno. The style is built for pressure, forward motion, and collective physical response.
History
Steppers emerged from roots reggae and UK sound-system culture, then became a digital-era lane through Jah Shaka, Channel One Sound System, Aba Shanti-I, Alpha & Omega, The Disciples, Bush Chemists, Iration Steppas, Zion Train, Vibronics, Dubkasm, King Earthquake, Jah Warrior, O.B.F, and Panda Dub. The European festival circuit and DIY dubplate culture kept it alive while dubstep and bass music borrowed its low-end discipline.
