Stenchcore

Stenchcore is the metal-heavy, apocalyptic wing of crust punk: churning riffs, grim bass, hoarse vocals, mid-tempo dread, war imagery and a filthy production style that feels closer to a ruined battlefield than a punk club. It is less sprinting than D-beat and less blast-focused than grindcore, but heavier than most anarcho-punk. The name signals atmosphere as much as tempo: smoke, decay, leather, metal and political despair.
History
The term grew around UK crust bands that absorbed Discharge, Venom, Celtic Frost and early thrash into anarcho-punk's bleak worldview. Amebix and Antisect were crucial precursors, while Hellbastard, Deviated Instinct, Axegrinder, Sacrilege, Concrete Sox and later Misery shaped the thicker stenchcore sound. Its influence runs through crust metal, blackened crust, sludge, death/crust hybrids and modern bands that want punk politics with extreme-metal weight.
