Improvisation builds like a DJ set: trance-y arpeggios, dubby breakdowns, and euphoric drops, blurring the line between jam band and rave. Cosmic, textural, and dance-floor-aimed rather than blues- or song-driven.

History

The Disco Biscuits coined 'trance-fusion' in Philadelphia in the mid-'90s, splicing electronic dance music into improvised jam rock. Atlanta's Sound Tribe Sector 9 (STS9) and Pennsylvania's Lotus formalized the instrumental livetronica sound around 2000-2003, filling the post-Phish-hiatus void and anchoring festivals like the Disco Biscuits' own Camp Bisco.
