Spa Guitar favors nylon or lightly fingerpicked acoustic guitar, warm room reverb, slow harmonic motion, and minimal ornament. It is softer and less rhythmically pointed than Latin crossover or fingerstyle folk, aiming for tactile ease and unobtrusive flow.
History
Guitar-based calm music entered spa culture through the broader New Age acoustic tradition, especially the Windham Hill lineage and later soft-nylon crossover instrumentalists; Will Ackerman, Ottmar Liebert, Eric Tingstad, Michael Hedges, Alex de Grassi, and Tingstad & Rumbel all offer recordings that map well onto the spa-room preference for warmth, breath, and low-pressure melodic movement.
