Southern Roots Rock blends Southern rock heft with older country, gospel, soul, and folk textures. It is less hard-riff and more roots-conscious than classic Southern rock, often carrying a deeper songwriting pull.
History
The genre's first foundations lie in the late-1960s roots-rock turn, but the contemporary form was strongly renewed by Southern Americana bands in the 2000s. It remains one of the strongest meeting points between regional identity and roots songwriting.
