Southern rock is guitar-dominant music rooted in blues, country, boogie, and regional performative swagger. It often features twin or triple leads, barrel-chested vocals, long solos, and rhythms that can alternate between swampy drag and highway acceleration.
History
Developed in the South in the late 1960s and early 1970s, southern rock drew from blues- and country-based rock traditions. The Allman Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker Band, Charlie Daniels Band, and later revivalists gave it varied flavors—jazzier, country-leaning, blues-heavier, or arena-ready.
