Southern rock cranked into overdrive: a triple-guitar attack pushed past barroom boogie into heavy riff territory, gritty drawled vocals, and hard-charging muscle. Faster and louder than its swampy roots, with dual-lead harmonies and slide giving way to pummeling power chords. Dixie grit meets hard-rock crunch.
History
Took shape around 1979 as Jacksonville bands pushed Southern rock heavier than the Allmans' boogie template. Molly Hatchet and Blackfoot came on harder than their peers, and Texas acts like Point Blank and Georgia's Doc Holliday rode the early-80s wave. A 90s revival followed, with Brother Cane and Jackyl carrying the Dixie grit into modern hard rock.
