Southern Blues Rock

Southern blues rock blends blues changes with Southern-rock looseness, twin-guitar interplay, rolling rhythm sections, and a warmer, less compressed feel than British blues rock. Organ, slide guitar, and long-form solo sections are common, and the rhythm often swings just enough to keep one boot in the blues.

History

The Allman Brothers were the obvious keystone, turning blues material into extended Southern ensemble music without losing the blues pulse. Later groups such as Gov’t Mule, the Derek Trucks Band, Tedeschi Trucks Band, North Mississippi Allstars, and the Black Crowes kept the lane open by mixing blues roots, jam sensibility, and regional rock weight.
