Sound-System Bass is bass music designed around physical low-end and sound-system ritual rather than a narrow genre template. It draws from dub, dubstep, reggae, grime, jungle, steppers, and UK bass: sparse drums, sub pressure, half-time space, MC room, reload moments, and tracks built to test speakers. The point is impact, not polish.

History

The lineage runs from Jamaican sound systems and UK roots-dub sessions into FWD>>, DMZ, dubstep, and modern bass festivals. Digital Mystikz, Mala, Coki, Loefah, Kode9 & The Spaceape, The Bug, Pinch, Vex'd, Iration Steppas, Channel One Sound System, Aba Shanti-I, Jah Shaka, Mungo's Hi Fi, O.B.F, and Sinai Sound System are core references. The style helped dubstep keep a roots connection even as the wider genre moved into EDM and aggressive midrange sounds.
