History
Emerged from 1970s soft rock as acts trimmed away grit for smoother adult radio. Christopher Cross's 1979 debut became its template; Bread, England Dan & John Ford Coley and later Michael McDonald-era smoothness fed the lineage. It bridges soft rock and AC, surviving as the mellow backbone of grown-up pop radio into the present.
