Social commentary rap focuses on lived conditions: poverty, racism, policing, housing, schools, labor, neighborhood collapse, and national hypocrisy. It is less slogan-heavy than overt political rap and more focused on observation from the ground up.

History

From "The Message" onward, rap has been one of the sharpest musical forms for social diagnosis. Public Enemy, Tupac, Killer Mike, J. Cole, Kendrick Lamar, and many others continued the lane, proving that reportage and personal narrative can coexist inside powerful songcraft.
