Hyperpop fused with 2000s scene/emo nostalgia: side-swept-bangs attitude, pop-punk and crunkcore chords, breakdowns and screams collided with pitched vocals, candy synths and clipping bass. Hyper-feminine and high-energy, it revives MySpace-era teen aesthetics through a maximal digital filter, equal parts mall-emo angst and bubblegum overload.
History
Surfaced around 2018-2020 as digicore and hyperpop kids who grew up on scene/crunkcore folded those textures back in. Dorian Electra's pop-punk leaning cuts, glaive's emo melodies and Black Dresses' shrieking maximalism revived 2000s scene energy, with the look and breakdowns of that era reborn through hyperpop's distortion and TikTok-fed nostalgia.
