History
The 'sad rap' tag attached to early-2010s internet acts, especially Sweden's Yung Lean and the Sad Boys collective, whose vaporwave-tinged, deadpan melancholy spread via Tumblr and YouTube around 2013-2014. Bladee, Lil Peep, and the wider SoundCloud melancholy scene broadened it, framing sadness itself as the genre's organizing aesthetic.
