Christian reggaeton (reggaetón cristiano) sets evangelistic and worshipful Spanish lyrics over full reggaeton and dembow production — dembow kick-snare, sub-bass, synth hooks and Auto-Tuned melodic rap — indistinguishable sonically from secular urbano except for its faith-centered message. Tracks range from club-ready dembow to melodic praise anthems and trap-flavored testimony. Vocals blend rap, sung hooks and altar-call urgency. The mood is celebratory, exhortative and devotional.
History
Reggaetón cristiano grew in the mid-2000s as Puerto Rican and Dominican believers adapted the reggaeton wave for the church, with Redimi2 (the Dominican Republic's pioneering Christian rapper), Funky, Alex Zurdo and Manny Montes building a parallel urban-gospel industry. Redimi2's 2014 "El Nombre de Jesús" and 2017 "Filipenses 1:6" crossed onto Billboard's Latin charts, and the movement matured into a full ecosystem of labels, festivals and streaming playlists mirroring mainstream urbano. It remains a major force in Latin Christian music.
