Reggaestep fuses dubstep drops and 140-BPM bass pressure with reggae skank, dub delays, dancehall vocals, offbeat guitar or organ chops, and roots-style melodic phrasing. It can be playful or militant, but the key sound is dubstep's wobble and half-time weight framed by reggae's rhythmic and vocal language.
History
The style grew from dubstep's deep debt to dub reggae and UK sound-system culture, then became more explicit as producers foregrounded reggae samples, riddims, and Jamaican vocal features. Rusko's dubwise tracks, Radikal Guru's roots-influenced bass music, Dreadsquad and Dubmatix's reggae-electronic hybrids, and Skrillex and Damian Marley's "Make It Bun Dem" brought the fusion to both underground and mainstream attention. Reggaestep influenced dubwise bass, reggae-electronic festival tracks, and later hybrids that connected dubstep with dancehall, moombahton, and global bass.
