History
As unscripted television exploded with The Real World (1992) and the Survivor-led competition boom of 2000, a bespoke reality-scoring craft emerged around composers like Russ Landau, whose tribal Survivor and The Amazing Race (with John M. Keane) themes defined the adventure-competition sound, and the prolific David Vanacore, who scored a vast slate of Mark Burnett and network formats. Reality shows also leaned on signature theme songs — Inner Circle's "Bad Boys" for Cops, RuPaul's Drag Race anthems, and pop tie-ins like Natasha Bedingfield's "Unwritten" — fusing library-style underscore with hooky branding across the genre's global expansion.
