High-energy trap built on short, stereo-widened, future-bass-style synth leads, distorted crushing 808s and pounding, deliberately simple drum patterns. Vocals are chant-like and repetitive, either yelled or melodically Auto-Tuned. The mood is hyper, mosh-pit aggressive yet euphoric, engineered to detonate live crowds into rage.

History

Seeded by Playboi Carti, Lil Uzi Vert and Trippie Redd in the late 2010s, the sound hardened on Carti's Whole Lotta Red (2020) with producer F1lthy and the Working on Dying collective. Trippie and Carti's "Miss the Rage" (2021) became the blueprint, and Carti's Opium roster, Ken Carson and Destroy Lonely, plus Portland's Yeat, carried it through the mid-2020s.
