Stop-start hardcore structures replace clean trap loops; the energy is violent, anarchic, and confrontational. Mosh-ready and antagonistic, it weaponizes punk's nihilism through a hip-hop delivery and DIY ethos.

History

Death Grips' aggressive experimental rap (from 2011-2012) set the abrasive tone; Newark duo Ho99o9, formed 2012, fused Bad Brains-style hardcore with death-rap. The trap-metal wave of 2017-2019 (City Morgue, ZillaKami x SosMula) widened it, while Rico Nasty's 'sugar trap' grew teeth. It overlaps heavily with rock and metal as much as rap.
