Psytrance is hyper-detailed, rolling, and psychedelic: galloping bass-kick patterns, alien FX, rapid arpeggios, and dense sound design aimed at altered-state dancefloors. Modern full-on psy often sits around 138–145 BPM, with relentless motion and maximal spatial hallucination.

History

The genre evolved from Goa trance as the original scene’s more spiritual, kaleidoscopic sound became tighter, more technical, and globally exportable. Infected Mushroom, Astrix, Vini Vici, Ace Ventura, Liquid Soul, and Avalon helped define mainstream psytrance’s later eras, while countless sub-scenes kept the form mutating.
