Psychill is psychedelic chillout: slower tempos, liquid pads, dub bass, 303 echoes, global percussion, cosmic samples, and a trance-like sense of depth without the main-floor kick pressure. It is more psychedelic than generic chillout and usually more melodic or meditative than ambient dub. The style is built for chill tents, sunrise recovery, headphone trips, and long relaxed listening.
History
Psychill developed from Goa chillout rooms, Twisted Records, ambient dub, Ultimae, psybient net culture, and the downtempo side of transformational festivals. Shpongle, Ott, Hallucinogen in Dub, Younger Brother, Entheogenic, Bluetech, Carbon Based Lifeforms, Aes Dana, Solar Fields, Asura, Kaya Project, Desert Dwellers, Globular, Kaminanda, and Kalya Scintilla made the style durable across scenes. Psybient.org and similar communities later preserved and ranked the canon for listeners outside the festival circuit.
