Pop dipped in acid-era studio color: backwards tape, phasing, sitar, Mellotron and Leslie-swirled vocals over bright, hook-forward melodies. Dreamy and kaleidoscopic but song-focused, not jam-based — childlike whimsy, fairground harmonies and surreal imagery in a tidy single. Sunshine and strangeness in equal measure.

History

Flowered 1966-69 as The Beatles, The Beach Boys and The Zombies brought psychedelia into compact, melodic pop, with The Hollies and The Move adding harmony-rich whimsy. Tame Impala and MGMT revived its swirling textures in the 2000s-2010s, proving the kaleidoscopic single endures.
