Concept-driven, suite-structured rap that borrows from prog-rock and psychedelia: spacey atmospherics, shifting movements, sung-rapped hybrids and album-as-journey sequencing. Guitar textures, ambient drones and humming melody replace verse-hook formula; introspective and cosmic, songs unspool as chapters in a larger narrative rather than standalone tracks.

History

Crystallized with Kid Cudi's 'Man on the Moon: The End of Day' (2009), a conceptual, psychedelic, genre-blurring debut that fused rap, rock and electronica and openly addressed mental health. Its acts-and-narrator structure and atmospheric palette opened the door for A$AP Rocky, Danny Brown and Childish Gambino to push rap toward album-length conceptual experiment.
