History
Took shape as 1970s prog and art-rock acts streamlined for the charts - 10cc and Supertramp polished complexity into pop, while Genesis, Yes and Asia later chased radio with shorter songs. Alan Parsons codified the sound; the early 1980s saw it dominate AOR airwaves before evolving into slick sophisti-pop and adult-oriented rock.
