History
The style emerged from UK rave, Balearic, house, and trance scenes as clubs such as Renaissance and labels such as Guerilla, Hooj Choons, Deconstruction, Bedrock, and later Global Underground promoted deeper, more sophisticated alternatives to piano-rave and handbag house. Sasha and John Digweed's long-form DJ aesthetic made progression itself the style's organizing principle, while Way Out West, Leftfield, James Holden, Quivver, and later Guy J and Pryda pushed it into breaks, trance, electro, and modern deep-progressive territory. Its influence is enormous: festival progressive, melodic house, progressive trance, and melodic techno all inherit its love of controlled ascent.
